Bedding Options For Bunks and Futons

!±8± Bedding Options For Bunks and Futons

Your beautiful new bunk bed looks great in the kid's bedroom. They can not wait to sleep in it. You check in the next morning and the room is a mess. The sheets are pulled out from under the mattress and the comforter is on the floor. You hurry in to make the bed but it's a job. You wonder if this bed was really a good choice. Well, don't send the bed back yet. With a few changes in your bedding, this bed can look as good as any other bed in the house and be easy to make.

First and foremost, you need what they call attached sheets. The fitted sheet and the straight sheet are attached at the foot or on the side. When they are attached at the side, all you have to do is pull the top sheet across the fitted sheet and it's done. This also keeps the top sheet on the bed during the night. Attached sheets are available in a variety of colors and styles to suit every taste.

With the sheets fitting properly, you might want a nice comforter on top. A regular comforter or blanket will come off easily. They make a comforter for bunk beds called a bunk bed cap. It is also known as a bunkie, hugger or snuggler. It has a fitted bottom so it stays in place during the night and makes up nicely during the day. These fitted comforters are not just for bunk beds. They work well on twin or full beds, trundle beds or any bed with a foot board.

Futon bunk beds are another bed where choice of bedding needs to be right in order to keep them looking tidy. Futons need a gripper under the mattress so they do not slide when they are in the couch position. There are also futon covers that look just like a couch with colorful upholstery and designs. They come in faux leather, faux suede, denim, and even genuine leather. These make a great alternative to a couch for small apartments or dorm rooms with the sleeping area right above.

Consider all the available options in bedding for bunk and futon beds. Although special bedding is not necessary, it can make your life easier when you are making up the bed. The room will appear tidier and the bedding will stay on the bed better. So, check out all the bedding options today.

Triple Bunk Beds

!±8± Triple Bunk Beds

Gone are the days when triple bunk beds were literally three beds arranged vertically above one another. Not only were these huge monstrosities unattractive, they did not allow the users very much breathing space. Their overall height eliminated their use in most homes (especially after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommended a 2 foot gap between the top bunk and the ceiling).

Bunk bed manufacturers had to come up with a new angle on triple bunk beds to make them both attractive and appealing, thereby satisfying the needs of a larger market. Today these beds are designed to optimize space without compromising on safety or style. They certainly are a far cry from their tall counterparts. Bunk beds offering three bunks are usually L-shaped featuring two upper bunks and one bunk on the ground. This allows the floor area under the second bunk to be fully utilized. If you choose to buy one of the L-shaped triple bunk beds remember to ascertain whether the manufacturer allows you the option of either left or right facing orientation. This is particularly important if your room layout only allows the placing of the bed in one specific position. The problem these days is that this is only one of the many more factors to consider when making your selection. The options available for people looking to buy triple bunks beds can be overwhelming.

Firstly you need to determine exactly what your requirements are with regards to the size of the bunks. Triple bunk beds are available in various combinations of three twin bunks, two twins and one full bed, two full size and one twin, two extra long twins and a full and then there are some that offer the option of adding a trundle bed to provide a fourth sleeping area.

Depending on whether you require all three bunks to provide permanent sleeping facilities or not, you may want to consider one of the many double bunks that offer trundle bed options to provide a third sleeping area. The large majority of people looking to purchase triple bunk beds require beds for two children and the third bunk is used occasionally as sleeping options for the odd sleep-over. The double bunk beds with a trundle provide ample sleeping space for people with these requirements.

There are triple bunk beds that provide the option of separating the beds and using them as stand-alone units. This is a useful option if you have the required space to use the beds separately. This means that you can provide young children with a safe sleeping area with the option of optimizing room space as your children grow and require a larger play or study area. It is not recommended that children under six years of age sleep on the top bunk. If your oldest child has not quite reached that age then this is an ideal solution. If this appeals to you remember to check whether separating the beds will require that bunkie boards be used to provide sufficient support for the bunks while used as stand-alone units.

If you need the bottom bunk for a very young child you may want to look for children's bunk beds that provide the option of adding guard rails to the bottom bunk. This makes these bottom beds ideal when transitioning from a crib to a bed.

There are many other factors that need to be considered when purchasing triple bunk beds - too many to cover in a single article. Other aspects will be covered in future posts. In the meantime you can start measuring the available floor area in your room and decide which size bed would best meet your requirements. The option of a double bunk with a trundle bed should also be given some consideration as this will broaden the selection that will meet your requirements.

Using bunk beds is a good way to maximize space, especially if your floor area is very limited. This type of furniture is actually very popular and commonly found in the rooms of children, residence halls of colleges and universities, ships and trains.

If you are interested in creating your own bunk bed, you need to get sturdy materials together. Wood, plywood, deck screws, carriage bolts, nuts, washers, wood plugs, finishing nails, lag bolts and lock washers are often used in building such beds. The number and size of the materials depend on the size of the furniture that you will be making.

Here are some reminders before you start building your bunk bed.

1. Evaluate the room where you want your new bed to be. Plot the space that the bed will occupy and make allowances for the rest of the furniture in the room. Now get accurate measurements of the space where you plan to put your bed. Visit different hardware stores and acquire the needed materials before you start on your project. Make sure you shop around for the best possible deals.

2. In building your bunk bed, make sure that you will be able to get standard-sized mattresses for it. Before you start cutting through the wood you have purchased to build your bed frame, make sure that you have made allowances for your mattresses. It would be unwise to have a large frame for your bunk bed when your mattress is a lot smaller, or have too small a bed frame that causes the mattress to spill out at the sides. Make sure that you construct the lower of the two bed platforms at least twelve inches off the floor. As for the upper bed box, it could be any height.
